Re: AMD to extend Ryzen 3000 CPU life cycle, according to report

They will probably push out a Vermeer model or two at the end of Q4 just so they can say they didn't delay Zen 3 to 2021, perhaps a low volume replacement for the 3950X. But I think Zen 3 will be delayed regardless of what AMD is saying, and Zen 2 will make up nearly all shipments for the rest of 2020. It could be a TSMC capacity issue; they have to keep a lot of their allocation in reserve for production of the processors for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

I don't think Threadripper is going away. It's just going to be a niche product for the workstation market, a competitor for Intel's Xeon W. There are people who need the additional RAM capacity and PCIe lanes that the platform offers, and since it's a simple adaptation of the EPYC server line it's not that much effort for AMD to make Threadripper.

I suspect they know Intel will try and come for them and they will use this time to pull a little more out of the 4000 series but who knows? I do know AMD have been the underdog for a while so I don't see them becoming complacent just yet.
Yeah, I hope they use the time to improve the 4000 series instead of letting it rot. I hope they've learnt from intel that they shouldn't be complacent.
