    iScratched

Bought a lovely new iPod Nano? Be very careful with it, as they scratch easily. iRegister iReports:
People slavering to get Apple's "impossibly small" iPod Nano into their sticky hands may want to pause a moment: those ahead of them in the queue have discovered that it's also unbelievably easy to scratch the screen, nixing its photo-displaying abilities.

Apple's discussion forums are already host to a 188-post thread on the topic, where people have spotted that the plastic used for the screen and front of the product is as sensitive as a Kate Moss sponsor.

Trouble is that a few scratches will quickly make the colour screen all but useless for viewing album art and photos stored on the machine. In which case you might as well have bought the cheaper, screenless iPod shuffle, hmm?
    What an iDisaster!

Yes but why should the people who buy the Nano have to shell out for a crappy piece of plastic to protect it. Seems stupid.

I'm with BlackDwarf. Zen Touch FTW!

Well to each his own. I don't mind paying the extra $20 for it, especially considering the fact that they replace it (the "crappy piece of plastic"), should it start peeling or anything.

It's the same as owning a pda who's screen also scratch quite easily hence why i always buy a good quality screen protector for it. It may cost 10 quid to buy it's better than having to buy a new screen further down the line and they cost alot more than that!

I should damn well hope they'd replace it if it started to peel if it was 3 years old!

Also, don't you think its rather awful your paying $20 for something that would of added $1 at absoulte most to the manafacturing proccess, but then again u've bought an apple product, which i plan to use as a test which means u can't vote in my utopia.

Well I have a Creative Zen Micro as well as an iRiver iFP899, and that probably still does make me able to vote in your "utopia", although don't ask why I have three MP3 players.

$1 at absolute most? For what, to go from stupid acrylic / plastic to glass or a material more scratch resistant? I woudl think it would cost a little more than that o.0.... but then again I don't know much about material construction and that stuff.

TheAnimus apple bashing again! What happenned, did steve jobs steal your girlfriend? I think one of the reasons people buy ipods is that they do work so easily. I have had 2 now, and no the 1st one wasn't broken etc, it got stolen. My 2nd gen mini has a great battery life and works like a charm! Iriver and Creative need to step up their campaign to get a larger slice of the sales. When do you see ads for them outside of the 'geek' press? Never. Its no wonder they have no percentage of the market!

One of the music channels has something sponsored by Creative Zen, IIRC.

    lol well said ;p

Apple really did mess up here, from what i've been reading the screens are being scratched and smashed just by keeping the nano in your pocket or cleaning it with a cloth..Appently the screen is something like 1/4 the thickness of the 'normal' iPod screen, so therefore its very easy to break.

I was going to get one of these next month but I think I will wait until apple releases a second revision without these problems, till then my 4G iPod will do me It's worth the wait to have one rather than giving in and getting a second rate player like an iRiver or Zen

Here... I have a couple of songs for you, i've DRM protected them to stop sharing etc, so they're WMV...

I'll just give you a link so you can pop it on your iPod.

    Oh, wait.

there are ways around that anyway, but since you mentioned drm we can't discuss them here
