My movies that i want to download are in the "Download Queue".....but they dont seem to be doing much?

When do they start downloading? Is it when the movies shows on sky next?

They're downloading, it only tells you the percentage though so unless you're on faster broadband it will only go up very slowly.

    darrensen,

I'm struggling to figure out why a download will actually start happening when it does - and I am not coming up with any answers that I believe.

Sometimes, it seems, you see progress very soon after clicking on the download button. Other times nothing, seemingly, happens for quite a long while.

Just one example - a movie I'm downloading right now called The forgotten. I clicked the button at 22:13:00 and a placeholder was created about 40 secs later within the folder in which the movie is going to reside (this is a hidden file of the same size as the final file will be). After two minutes, the status was unchanged, likewise after 10 minutes.

What's irritating is that you don't know whether it shows zero per cent because nothing has been downloaded or because less than 99% of the movie has been downloaded. It's not sufficient to have just a percentage readout and an accompanying bargraph.

My assumption is that because I can't yet see any moving bands on the bargraph, nothing has come down yet. If that is actually the case, I want to know it for sure and want to be told why there's a delay starting. I also think it's rather silly that the download queue tells you the year in which the movie was released but not the size in MB of the file you're downloading.

For the record, about 35mins after clicking Download, I went back to the queue and saw that things had started moving. The download status was at six per cent and that another movie download (for Jersey Girl) that I started a few minutes after the first one was at 4 per cent.

Fifty minutes on from starting the first download, the figures were 15 per cent and 11 per cent. A further five minutes on and it's 18 per cent for the first file but still only 11 per cent for the second.

    Go figure

You say it can be cracked in "about 10 minutes".

Are you stating a fact or an opinion?

The reason why I ask is, of course, because I doubt that what you say is true.

But the ONLY reason I doubt it is that some very big operators are using the system and, if you know it can be cracked, then I imagine that they must know, too, as must the studios.

And the studios are who are allowing these companies (the BBC and AOL are among other users of Kontiki) to make their movies available and they are, I also presume, relying on Kontiki to prevent the files being cracked such that anyone can play them on any machine.

I'm not for a second suggesting that someone won't crack Kontiki, I merely ask whether you know for SURE, if it has already been cracked?

If you do know for sure, then some proof of that would be most welcome.

Like I said earlier - can you explain WHY you say this?

If not, I think you should admit that you were wrong.

Bob, I have all the minimum specs. Have installed Sky by Broadband successfully and have downloaded 1 movie and several sports clips but none of them will play. When I select one to play Win MP10 opens within the Sky application, the staus bar displays several messages ref loading, connecting to media and finally ready but I just have a blank MP10 screen. If I try to play the file from the download loacation I get an error 'An operation was attempted on a pin that doesn't exist in the DirectShow filter graph'. I've tried to play it in Media Player Classic but get the message 'failed to render file'. I've used GSpot to analyse
the file which confirms it in .asf format but again when I try to render it within this application it fails.

Sky helpdesk say they are investigating but that was 3 weeks ago and further contact has resulted in nil response.

    Any ideas?

    Brian,

I've googled for that error message and all I'm finding is people saying, "use a different media player" but that, of course, is no use to you because WMP10 is the only player you can use with this Sky stuff.

I think that what I'd do in your position is reinstall all the relevant software, probably starting with WM10 alone - though it might be better to do a reinstall of .NETframework first, but I'm really not sure.

If reinstalling WMP10 didn't help, then I'd reinstall .NETframework - assuming you didn't do that first (Sky talks about V1.1 so assuming you're not on V2, then do 1.1), followed by WM10.

And, if that didn't work, I'd then use the Sky installer - this will reinstall the Kontiki stuff but not, I think, .NETframework or WM10, because it will see they are already there.

If that doesn't work - any you still haven't lost the will to live - then I'd probably uninstall the whole lot, reinstall .Net, then WMP10, then run the Sky installer.

PLEASE do let us know how you get on - if you don't succeed, it's possible I can get someone at Sky to look into it for you. No guarantees, though.

    Bob
