I'm still waiting for OLEDs, might have enough saved up by the time they come out.

I've been using captures that have been done by other people:

    http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/...d.php?t=348897

it's an extremely long and tedious thread and, ahem, many of the caps have been deleted. You might want to start reading from the end of the thread.

I'm by no means an expert, and in fact after dabbling just a teeny bit I'm unlikely to make much more effort. I might have a go at capping Beeb HD using my Nebula DTV card, but I aint paying money for software to do this or messing about with codecs.

It's interesting how relatively good the World Cup looks on Beeb 1 via Freeview, i.e. even without HD the picture looks better than normal. ITV1 World Cup looks crap in comparison though.

Apologies for bumping an old thread. . .but I have a long memory.

What do you make of the sections "1080i film-based content can become true 1080p" and "Consumer televisons" (last sentence) here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p

The "3-2 pulldown reversal" discussion re turning 1080i into 1080p at the receiving set, hence tip-toeing around broadcast bw limitations.

If you follow the link to telecine, you will find a more detailed discussion of 3-2 pulldown

    Who's spending £1000's on a 720 screen anyway??
I bought mine for <£600, and it's really nice. If in 5 years there's enough 1080p content (ie whichever high def DVD standard wins, or a dual-format player), then it'll be time for a 1080p 60" screen for £1000.

To be honest, what is the point in investing into HD now.

It might be something great in the future, but it just seems a little silly to spend ridiculous amounts of money for something that only really consists of nature programmes, sports events and films.

I think I'm going to wait to invest in HDTV, at the current moment in time the extortionate SkyHD prices, television sets and monthly subscriptions are too much to justify a purchase.

I would buy a HDTV today, but only if i was looking to buy a new one anyay (which i am for the bedroom, probably 26"). However i wouldn't bother to replace a TV that didn't really need it (like my 42" non-HD plasma). I'll do that when i can afford 1080p and have the space for a larger screen i.e. when i move house
