I don't like to criticise too much, as I obviously don't know all the circumstances in which luxury items like this are allowed, but it would certainly appear to be a soft approach, and this is perhaps even more worrying...
After all, prison's meant to be a deterrent, and this is becoming less significant as examples such as this is publicised.
thats not the only luxury they have. some prisons have there own gyms, swmiming pool and satalite tv's
lockerbie springs to mind

its a disgrace. bring back the chair or death by lethal injection i say.
It's quite simple - it's a perks system for good behaviour/jobs etc.
There's not much left of the stick to give to people already in jail, so better to encourage rehabilitation, education, etc. with carrots. Then you can always take away the carrot again as a disciplinary action.
Guess there's two views on jail
1) It's justice - they are paying for their crimes and that's it.
2) It's justice and rehabilitation. They are paying for their crimes, but we're also trying to change their behaviour so they don't commit more crimes.
I'm in favour of the latter personally.
Actually, it's torture.
They *have* given them PS2 consoles, but the only games supplied with them are Spice World, Parappa the Rapper and Crazy Frog Racer.
