If you have next gen gaming systems then buying a HDTV for them to make them play like they're supposed to is almost a must imo, even if it's a PC monitor.

Otherwise you spending £700-800 (360 + PS3) and don't have the ability to play them at what they are supposed to play

I agree - when I connected my 360 to a tv when my monitor was unavailable it looked poo in comparison.

Fight Night looked much worse for example.

My money is on MS dropping the price ohhhh... around PS3 launch day (since they've managed to reduce their production costs a fair bit) and really rubbing it in.

There's still fun to be had from using them on a standard def TV. I used my 28" WS SDTV for my 360 for a good few months before I managed to get hold of a VGA cable for my monitor (Dell 20" WS) and it didn't stop me from enjoying my games (I'm still saving (or at least trying to save) for a nice HDTV set).

If all you have is an SDTV, I wouldn't say not to get a 360/PS2 as the games will still be just as much fun in SD as it will in HD (and it will still look better than a gen 1 X-Box/PS2).

I agree SD is ok, but he was saying a PS3 or an HDTV, when really having TWO next gen consoles and an SDTV just seems nuts.

You wouldn't buy an 8800GTX SLI rig if you had a 1280 x 1024 screen....unless you enjoyed wasting money very much

my point was simply, if he's gonna buy both eventually, the ps3 makes the more sensible choice in the short run

Right now....it makes sense NOT to buy the PS3. Until we get some AAA titles and can decide if it's worth the large outlay

imo

He did say he has a 360, right? SO PS3 or HDTV for me is HDTV. I don't think we'll see a further 60% reduction in price on 32" HD screens again - You can already get one for <£400.

PS3 for £425? You've got to be kidding. When it drops below £300 it'll be within reach, but i'll probably want a DX10 gfx card by then instead.

Yeah 5lab but as Sony have already demonstrated we as Europe are last in their list of priorities and you could be waiting a while for that download.

Price is miles too high, No games that grab my attention, can see the 360 and the Wii happily outselling the PS3 at launch, reckon the majority of those actually bought on launch day will be languishing on eBay soon afterwards

Ask yourself how much a ps3 and a good HD tv cost you?
then ask your self how much a pc is with same performance as ps3.
What would you want?
