Think I tried this on the PS3 and you couldn't switch selected Worms at the start of your go. Made it really frustrating, installed Worms 2 again and had a play just to remind me that the games used to be good!

As with all things Steam, I'll wait and see what it comes down to on sale. I'm certainly not paying £18 for what's essentially Worms Armageddon with animated backgrounds!

Re: Reviews - Worms: Reloaded - PC

I like it because it plays like old Worms games.
I bought it because it's old worms with new graphics.
However, Worms Armageddon and World Party are ultimately better games. Far better choice of weapons, better team setups (2*8/6*3 instead of 2*4/4*4) and so on.
Overall, I'd score Worms Reloaded a 6/10 I think, but I'd still recommend Worms fans to buy it.
Kind of disappointing that 9 years work is only making a game slightly worse rather than improving it.

Re: Reviews - Worms: Reloaded - PC

Agreed with sammorris. Shame that getting the older Worms to work on W7/Vista is a pain.

The thing that annoys me about it, is just how rushed it is, and how rushed it feels. The menu system is lifted straight from the consoles, and could be streamlined so easily for PC use. There are more bugs and glitches then I'd have thought possible for a 2D game. For instance, many suffer from random slow down in game, which is really annoying if you're trying to do a backwards jump at a cliff edge, only to find the worm jumps straight into water.

It is however, still stupidly entertaining with friends, and that's surely the point?

Re: Reviews - Worms: Reloaded - PC

I remember Worms World Party to be aggro trying to get running without horrid colours, but Armageddon wasn't too bad after the patch - especially it enabled resolutions up to 1920x1200
Shame they couldn't do the same thing for World Party really.
The menu is awful for a PC, it's the most consoley menu I've seen in a game for a while.
I've not had any random slowdown during a turn, but then my PC must be ten times the minimum specs. What I do get however, is random slowdown when the game switches to someone else's turn. I don't mean 'waiting for other players' I mean an actual frame rate of about 8-10 for a couple of seconds. Seems weird, but it's not yet happened to me during a turn.
Essentially though, it differs in the following ways:

    Cool addons like Wormpot removed
Team structure reverted to basic form, max 4 worms per team, max 4 teams
Backgrounds and weapon effects changed (not landscape)
    Water system changed
Sideways maps allowed (this is cool)
    New pointless weapons added
All non-classic (Worms 1/United) power weapons removed
    Hardware demands increased
    Interface made worse
    Online play system improved

I do not mention netcode as it hasn't improved. The 'waiting for other players' still takes a good 5s+ between turns, and the latency between host/visitor PCs is still 4500-6000ms.
