Re: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

All these new cards are all well & good but are aimed at main stream gamers price wise.
When are the true budget(£100-£150)high setting 1080p cards coming that look good & run cool?

Wanting to spend up to £300 on a shiny new GPU?
Nope, max £200 for me! But I'll continue reading past the first line of the article out of curiosity anyway.

Re: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

So, can someone explain to me, with a $289 MSRP, the justification for a £300, $390 price tag in the UK?, when the £ is currently at $1.30

    No, thought not.

I remember the time when MSI weren't opportunistic price gouging douchebags with their cards.

ASUS are selling a 1060 Strix for £326 and $330.

Re: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

It's easy to forget that American prices do not contain state taxes while UK prices more often than not include VAT, which when applied often equate to roughly $1 = £1 when comparing prices.

Um, VAT? With VAT at 1.2 and current exchange rate at 1.3, a 1:1 conversion is no longer unreasonable.

US price looks to be $299, and can be had for £289 in the UK so not even that bad. Plus any company needs to take currency fluctuations into account and they want to shift prices every day when there are the inevitable further drops in exchange rate.

Still, it's an expensive card and hard to justify the price increase over more basic offerings

Re: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

Well, I think I'm going to be skipping this generation or waiting for it to go on sale. We knew there would be a price hike for the new generation, but between the crappy exchange rate being provided, even including taxes and on the old value of the £, we seem to be really getting shafted for price on this generation. If they wanted to push it a smidge above the 300 mark for the 1070 vs the 970, I wouldn't be happy but I'd find it acceptable. £430 however i find totally unacceptable, and it seems all the other cards are going to have the some proportional price hike over last generation.

Jesus Christ, £300 for an admittedly very good mid range card is insane.

Re: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

I would be tempted to trade up to the 1070 for an extra £130 and the embrace 4K side of gaming myself.. it's worth considering if you keep your card for a while. Maybe AMD has a chance with the RX 480s to win the £200-250 range if they're prudent etc.

Re: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

Looks like a lot of extra expense for not a huge gain over the basic 1060. I think it's going to be the cheapest non-mini model of 1060 for me, or maybe a secondhand 980 if the prices drop a bit lower.

Re: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X

It seems to be a relatively simple Nvidia line up
Gaming at FHD: 1060 will be smooth
Gaming at QHD: 1060 struggles on some titles, 1070 will be smooth
Gaming at 4k: 1070 struggles best go for 1080 (or 1070 SLI)

I am going to upgrade at Xmas to QHD so 1070 looks the best option.

But 1060 mini in a mini-ITX rig would be interesting particularly as I would water cool it. Might produce a very small and quiet gaming (FHD) machine.

Shame about no SLI. 2x1060 might be a very good combination

DX12 explict multi-GPU seems to give good results with 2 x 1060 cards according to the figures floating around the interwebs

Don't forget the 20% VAT, but yeah you still have a point.
