    XFX GeForce 6600 GT Dual-DVI

XFX, a division of Pine, has done an excellent job with its GeForce 6600 GT card. The company knew that it was on to a winner with the GPU; it's difficult to manufacture a bad one, really. XFX, intelligently, also knew that bigger NVIDIA partners would probably steal the limelight unless it did something special to its package. A pre-overclocked GPU speed was always unlikely, so XFX has gone with video RAM that runs at a full 20% faster than the default 1000MHz. That extra memory bandwidth, totalling 19.2GB/s off only a 128-bit bus, is the reason why XFX's effort is between 5-10% faster than the competition in the majority of our benchmarks.

"Speaking of NVIDIA's excellent GeForce 6600 GT GPU in particular, it's only currently available in PCIe form, so you'll need to invest in a compatible motherboard."

That's not true at all, I'm using an XFX 6600GT AGP right now. They've been out for well over a month, and there have been numerous reviews on them.

Sorry, you are right. I think this may have been different at the time of writing, but I'll have a word about getting that rectified

    Thanks for pointing it out.

This is my fault - at the time of writing this was right; but I didn't activate it early enough

    No biggie really

I wondered about the date but it showed Jan 29th, otherwise I wouldn't have even mentioned it. Cool that you guys are going to fix it though.

    Xfx 6600GT and Vivo

I bought an xfx 6600 gt and all in all, i'm satisfied and i think your review is correct.

However, one frustrating thing is that the product description, both on the
xfx website and on the product box instelf list the following features:

    "
    High-Quality Real-Time Video Recording
Get full digital video recording functionality without losing data. With NVIDIA PureVideo technology, high-quality recording preserves picture detail while also using minimal space to store videos on the hard drive.
    ....
    Simultaneous Watch and Record
With the simultaneous watch and record capability, you can record live TV while you are watching a recorded TV show or a DVD for the ultimate in multitasking capability.
    "
    see <full list here>

It is confirmed by xfx support that the 6600GT does not have vivo - so
why do they mislead their customers?

I got the AGP version of it and it has the silver XFX heatsink / fan on it. Really good card, but as mentioned in the review, games that come with are quite dated now and I wont play them at all.

Overall though, really nice card and well built, high quality. Well worth the money allround. Runs everything I have in high detail, my only slight drawback is having the 1.8 Ghz processor, think its creating a little bit of a bottleneck with the performance.

mine still working strong...would recommend to anyone still on agp...the 9800pro (now available around a mental £80-90) is also a pretty safe bet, two very similar cards each cope well but one may beat the other in certain situations...

From what I've seen, both cards are competent mid range cards. The 6600GT may be slightly faster, but the 9800 Pro is an excellent bargain. I think it depends on which brand you prefer - I intend to stick with ATi and their Catalysts.
