The 5800x doesn't seem to make much sense imo since you could just spend a bit more and get the 5900x. Hopefully when/if AMD release the 5700x that bridge between 5600x and 5800x will be filled. Additionally I eagerly await the non X variants of some of these chips

Some would consider £100 difference to be significant.

    When/if indeed.
In the meantime, they're hooking people into a £100 upsell...

Pretty sure that's only in specific workloads which don't use much if any multithreading such as games. A 5600X cant even beat a 3700X in some tests due to the lower thread count.
LOL, and yet the 5600X is a way better value for money since it more powerful where it counts. If I was given a choice for free between 5600X and 5800X I would choose the latter, sell it and then buy a 5600X then spend whatever money I have left over on some games or extra RAM.

LOL, and yet the 5600X is better value and actually more powerful where it matters most for the bigger portion of users. Personally if I was given a choice between 5600X and 5800X I would choose the latter then sell it and buy myself a 5600X plus some games with leftover money.

Pretty sure that's only in specific workloads that don't take advantage of multithreading. 5600X cant even beat a 3700X in some multithreaded tasks, simply because of the lower thread count.

I think the 280 price is totally fine for the 5600X, considering the 5600 is to be released at a later date for just over 220.

    Re: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X

Besides the price, the other major concern about the 5800x is the temperatures it reaches as all 8 cores being on one CCD. Ryzens have a reputation of running cooler than intel and with less voltage, the 5800X is an exception to that trend and many enthusiasts will baulk at the compromise over a 5600X or 5900X

Oh Hi Ampersand - funny wseeing u here lol

Im not sure the value is on the 5600x when the 5800x can easily be had with a few discount vouchers and what not for £300

    My 5800x runs perfectly cool

You could also try using the ctr2.0 tool from 1usmus -
Keeps my 5800x at 35 idle and 70 or so on max load
at stock it was maxing out at 85 on synthetic benchmarks
