Orange M500

You have to want the M500 for its productivity, not for the look of it, it’s a functional device that does very well for the business user, not so for ‘joe public’. If you want someone else to organise your life for you I would heartily recommend this for the sheer capability and performance. On the other hand I personally would prefer a phone and a PDA, but I’m just greedy like that.

PDA and seperate phone all the way, it seems alright although i wouldn't like everything in one box.

I have an M2000 which I don't use anymore.

The Blackberry is the first device which has made me real happy recently - since it just works.

Ah Windows mobile-based PDA, the M500 has just been released on Orange. But for email you can't beat the ease of use the Blackberry offers with the key layout it's just not available from Orange only simfree and un-subsidized. Depends on what you use it for I guess. If you need to run office applications such as excel, outlook and pocket Internet explorer this could be just the ticket.

For corporate users (on Blackberry enterprise server) only btw.... Also the Orange Blackberry (could the name be more confusing) handsets are available soon, I have 2 working Orange Blackberry 7290 handsets here!

I would disagree with the whole not useable as a phone thing, assuming of course they didnt change the interface for the mda compact version, i can text someone one handed, phone them one handed, you just need to get used to the interface, took me a while to realise green button brings a keypad up, first few letters of name, middle button, can text/phone/email, all from there.

The handwriting recognition is very good once you get it set up right, although something of a ball ache to use unless youre stood/sat still. And you cant beat the range of software for it, although admittedly i only payed 50 quid for mine, at 150+ like most places want for them now i wouldnt be so tempted.

Yep they are already available, You need to have over 49 employees for Orange to offer a business solution and supply the Blackberry handsets. If not it's the nokia handsets on orange or the Xda's on 02. Orange have no intentions of releasing Blackberry handsets on there network for non coperate clients as of yet, if they did I would sell them like hot cakes .

For those that have the Blackberry working on Orange, can someone offer me some advice / experience on what you had to do to get it setup?

I have Blackberry Connect working on my SonyEricsson p910i, and my corporate CIO department have enabled my account for Blackberry access, but it seems to be getting stuck establishing a connection.

The status window says GPRS is available, but the phone is showing no sort of connection or data transfer, and it never gets beyond this. All the rest seems to be working fine (PIN, transfer of account details, IT policy etc).

From reading around, I've seen it stated that your service provider needs to enable the "blackberry.net" APN on my account, but having gone round the houses in their technical department no one seems to have a clue about this, even those supporting the corporate Blackberrys and devices with Blackberry Connect (of course they don't officially support it so can't complain too much). When I change the APN to the standard "orangeinternet" it gets stuck on an APN error message, so don't think I can use that.

Any advice? It's getting pretty frustrating not being able to use it, as it knocked out the normal sync on the p910i during setup! Thanks!

It's a personal phone, not a business line. Unfortunately my company leaves mobiles up to us, and then we claim business calls and line rental back (complicated but there is a reason). Thus the p910i is just from a Carphone Warehouse, who can't help me either. I did phone Orange Business support but they said everything should be working fine... guess if you get a corporate Orange Blackberry then everything is setup so unless you get the right person you hit a brick wall of ignorance, and finding that right person is what I'm struggling to do at the moment.
