    great British Menu

    Who'd watching it this season?

I loved last years...... but this year, last week particularly, left me wondering where the chef skills had gone (last week was West Country....a personal favourite of mine, so I was saddened by it)

But this week Atul Kochhar is doing good stuff for the South East, and he's up against stiff opposition.

    Good telly....very good....who watches?

Me, I love it for the ideas!. The liquorice one was my favourite so far this season. (sadly i don't catch all of them but as many as i can and the 30min round up on saturday morning usually)

I thought Northern Ireland one was definitely the most disappointing by far tho, really disappointed in what was produced.

    Re: great British Menu

Some of the recipes this time round sound absolutely revolting. The judges must be having a really hard time. There have been rounds when I can honestly say that I wouldn't order a single thing on their menu.

And what's all this obsession with making the dish look like someone has spat on it with foam everywhere?

Love the programme. Atul is a favourite of mine having eaten at his Benares Restaurant.

Whereas I think some of the recipes are too way out, at least it creates discussion and interest in food.

Just makes me want to book up for a meal at one of the restaurants.

Atul is good isn't he? And he's up against it this week.

I like foam.... we spent a week in a Spanish Hotel/Castle and each evening meal began with a foam starter....was heaven

    sad huh?

But Mr Atherton was damn good....not that it wasa Clingy meal that clinched it. Too much meat I think for that

    Re: great British Menu

What's this facination with FOAM and drizzling stuff all around the edges of the plate though?

I'm more of a substinance over style man anyday of the week. Give me real food and none of this little pieces of whatever surrounded by blobs and swirls of stuff.

    Re: great British Menu

the drizzling of stuff is actually not a bad idea. It's normally a highly flavoured sauce, that perfectly compliments the taste of the main food, and is needed in tiny amounts.

And smearing/drizzling it is better than pouring it over the food, or serving it in a jug!

    Re: great British Menu

What was that about?, lets have nice slow build up then rattle through the 7 winners and their starters in seconds

    Gutting....

Edit: and why the hell do we have any public vote on this, we can't taste the food, however much we might think something looks nice, its wrong to have a telephone vote give half the score.

This week has been a roller coaster for Glynn....I'm so pleased he nailed it in the pudding section

Atherton is a master, is he not? Yes?

But I want to kick Chris is the nadgers, every time he says something so "up himself"

Pru for Queen and Mattew for PrimeMinister I say

Looking forward to the results show tonight, I just hope the public vote reinforces the judges vote and doesn't change anything.

Me too...I dont see why the public vote...we cant taste it, and we're not food critics, and we might upset the balance of the menu.

    Silly / revenue idea

    [Spoilers Alert]

Well sadly i'm disappointed by the fact that chris didn't win the starter round, i thought his starter and infact his whole style of cooking was amazing.

His skill level is truely fab, of all the chefs i think overall he's really impressed me
most with what he's done for very modern food. Nutrious food that is purely about health!.

Might have to spend some time looking to take some of his influences

    Re: great British Menu

it makes a nice change that british food can be seen as decent and hopefully encourages more places to offer a great british menu instead of constantly focusing on french/italian
