    Lunch Time snacks.

Moving to new job means i can't nip home at lunch for a quick snack. So I need to start considuring things to eat during lunch.

Problems are, I don't like things like Cheese or Green things heh (being most vegtables)

I will eat lettuce if i _NEED_ to but don't enjoy it.

I was thinking that i could make up some sort of tortillas for lunch in advance and reheat them a bit. And i'd do things like bacon sandwiches, steak sandwiches, chicken tikka bagettes.

But they all tend to rely on being made fresh and thats something i'm not really wanting to do.

Anyone got any ideas on convience food i can make in advance that doesn't need to be made fresh?

    Thanks

Ok - so this is the opposite of the "I need healthy options for my lunch" kind of threads - coz you dont do healthy do you??! (Lucky you!)

Well you have the obvious things like Crisps, Chocolate etc etc
You can get the pre-cooked crispy bacon stuff in the Supermarkets now so you could do all variations of sandwiches - do you not do things like Chicken Mayo, Ham and stuff - of can you just not be bothered with making stuff in the mornings?
Otherwise how about Pasties and those Slices which are filled with all kinds of lovely stuff and completely unhealthy?
    Also Samosas, oh and Pizza!

There's loads of stuff you could have!
(Im drooling now coz I avoid most of it!)

    Hope this helps!

Hmm, not sure i am saying that I want unhealthy things too, i'm pretty convinced that if i get no ideas the sort of thing i'll end up doing is say, make a small sunday roast for me, and make some sort of lunch out the leftovers.

The Tortilla wraps makes sense to me, some nice spices, tomatos (notice not green vegtable), onions, red peppers (all be it finely sliced) and left over roast meet. Chicken/pork/beef and put them in the freezer and then microwave them hot when eating at work.

Yes chocolate and crisps are all well and good and fruit will be used too. i'm just looking for some inspiration

    Thanks for the suggestions tho

TiG, how about getting some of those ready cooked marinated chicken fillets, Add some chilli sauce, a dolop of mayonnaise and wrap it up in a flour tortillia?

Or, Pork pies, but warm them up in a microwave and have em with some onion relish (sold as a burger condiment)... they're great hot.

Or... if you fancy making yourself a lasagne or something, make a double amount, get hold of some of those foil tins with lids (supermarkets sell them) and freeze yourself your own ready meals!

Say you're doing a stir-fry, cook some extra rice, bung a bit more stir fry stuff in than you'll eat that night and freeze the extra. ALl you need at work is a microwave and fork and you're sorted.

Its quicker than making sarnies every morning too!

TiG doesn'r eat Italian..so pasta and lasagne etc are no goers.

I hate to say it....the good old sandwich is the answer...its not like there aren't HUNDREDS to choose from.

    BUT...this is the clever bit....

    BUY GOOD BREAD>...its ESSENTIAL...but LOAVES OF IT>..

buy the fillings you fancy and lots of marg or butter...

then make LOADS OF THEM>..and FREEZE.....take them out each morniing, put in lunch box...defrosted by 11 am and super nice.

I do it with cheese, cheese and ham, tuna, ham and tuna, etc..

and as you dont like salad...thats cool too...cos salad doesnt freeze AT ALL

I like to take Cous Cous with me, dead easy to make and its very easy to flavour, can be eaten cold or from a pitta bread warmed through.

Or take some houmous and some dippy veg sticks, like celery or carrots and sliced peppers.

I was going to suggest freezing things too. I know I spend my life thinking of yummy sandwiches, but you really can't beat some thickly sliced fresh white bread, butter and some good meaty ham (not plastic stuff!). Make some, freeze some

The pasta thing is a good idea too, especially in winter when you might want something hot. Even if you don't have much time, just some cooked (al dente) pasta, mixed with a bit of olive oil and black pepper, sprinkled with grated cheese (....oh... did you say you don't like cheese????!) (and maybe some diced tomatoes), heats really well in the microwave for a few minutes.

Soup and a buttered roll or something is good too if you want something hot.

Or.... (still on the hot food theme even though the weather is baking today!), maybe this isn't ideal for lunch and might sound wierd, but I like grated (or slightly thicker "julienne"!) carrot and courgette (green thing alert!!), with some butter and lots of black pepper in the microwave, then eat with a bread roll, or pitta bread or put into a tortilla wrap....
(grated parsnip mixed with a little bit of curry powder and a knob of butter in the microwave is ace too, but probably not for lunch!)

    Hungry now....

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

surely by freezing sarnies, when they defrost they'll be all soggy? :S we used to freeze loves of bread but they'd always come out of the freezer, defrost and be all ming and soggy :S

Well I freeze my bread and it never comes out soggy.

Must admit to wondering about sandwiches being a bit mingy - but considering my boss supplies our rolls, I really dont need to worry about what Im having for lunch... just need to elbow my colleagues out of the way for the best fillings!

Tho when I did do my own lunch, I often did Pasta and stuff, home made sandwiches get a bit dull, because your fillings are limited depending on when you've been shopping!

pre-cooked marinated chicken breasts (birds eye honey & mustard are nice) with some egg noodles, chuck a load of thai sweet chili sauce over the noodles & roughly slice the chicken, pop it all in a microwaveable container

2 mins in the micro - ping - lovely lunch!
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is
