    Ooooooo thanks.

My daughter still talks about the trip and that all her hosts thought shrimp was a vegetable!

you would have thought vegetenarians were easy to deal with but even they are subdivided:

    1) the vegans
    2) the religious vegetarians who either count fish as meat or not

its always good for the kids to travel as god knows when we start working we might never have the chance to travel as much

Re: Help! - Japanese Vegetarian Recipes

My wife is Japanese and we have discussed this topic at length (particularly when my sister who was vegetarian at the time went on a lengthy trip with us around Japan) - it's not a good place for vegetarians! You'll most likely be doing what my sister had to do - eat lots of salad. Sorry to have to say it. Sure there are options, but does she have a command over the language to get over specifics of what is in each meal? Vegetarian recipes are great but unfortunately they won't help on your trip during the many occasions when you are eating out!

Re: Help! - Japanese Vegetarian Recipes

I had no problems touring Japan as a vegetarian to be honest. They have a HUGE amount of soya based foods (instead of gelatine based as we often do over here). The problem is simply getting accross the concept that you don't eat meat, it was completely alien.

I had a lot of Tofu, Tempura, noodles/soup - and tons of soya beans!

But I'm sure in the 4 years since the OP posted they've sorted something out

Yeah, she now eats raw meat straight from the side of the cow and can often be seen escaping farmers fields during the early hours dressed in a Tron suit...
