If your thinking of buying a Mesh Computer. Do yourself a favour DON’T.

I bought a mesh computer, looking back I have to say, it was the worst decision I ever made. The computer simply didn’t work! As soon as I turned it on, it would last about 5 seconds, then just crash!

There customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with. You call them, they take your details, then they ask you to wait around all the following day so they can call you back. So you take the day off work waiting for them to get back to you, if they do, their advise is pathetic, and I mean pathetic!!

There computer engineers don’t know the first thing about how to fix a PC, they only have 2 phrases in their manual.

    1. Have you tried formatting your hard drive?
    2. Have you tried defragmenting your C drive?

So, I took the day off work, the man called and told me to format my hard drive. I did, then realised I had no instructions/documentation telling me how to install all the drivers required to run the PC. So I called them again, they told me they would call me tomorrow. I took another day off work, the computer engineer had no idea what to do, he just told me to “keep try all the disks provided and eventually it would work”. After about a week of fiddling with various BLANK disks I managed to get the computer up and running again, but it still didn’t work. It had the same problem, once turned on it would last about 5 seconds then crash. I called again and took another day off work, the engineers advise was again,
“Have you tried formatting the hard drive?” I said yes.
“Oh… have you tried defragmenting the C drive?” I explained I couldn’t do that because the computer wouldn’t stay on long enough. His eventual advice was to try formatting the hard drive again, I foolishly agreed and went through the whole process again, still my computer didn’t work. I called again and took another day off work,
“have you tried formatting the hard drive?” Yes!
“Have you tried defragmenting the C drive?” I can’t, I explained! Again he suggested I tried formatting the hard drive, this time I refused and told him to think of something else, he said he couldn’t so I said I wanted my money back. I then got put through an exceptionally aggressive person who told me that even though I’d only had the computer a couple weeks I would not get my money back, and I wasn’t entitled to change it for a different one.

They told me they would bring it in and have a senior engineer look at it. They came and picked it up, held it for a week and returned it to me saying they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. I turned it on, five seconds later, it crashed. I was stuck with this £1000 paper weight for a year, a whole year and no progress! Trying to get them to fix it or get my money back started to take over my life. Constantly on the phone to them, and the citizens advice. I was getting nowhere and it was affecting my life for the worst, something so minor shouldn’t do that!

Anyway, after about 15 months I got a phone call out of the blue from mesh computers, telling me that my computer was one of a group set up incorrectly and I may be experiencing difficulties with it!! They talked me through I few minor points and for the first time since I had it, I was able to open Word! I was so angry, twice they took it back to have an engineer look at it, twice they sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it! They simply didn’t bother!

Even now it doest work very well, I still can’t defragment my hard drive, and it crashes more than any other computer I’ve ever known. All that has to cause some damage to the hard drive.

I don’t hate many things, but I do hate Mesh Computers.

Do yourself a favour, if your thinking of buying a PC please don’t buy one from mesh, in fact don’t get one you can’t buy in stores. Get one from PC world or somewhere like that. Then, if it doesn’t work, pack it up walk into the shop and make a very loud fuss!!! You’ll soon get the service you require.

Re: If your thinking of buying a Mesh Computer. Do yourself a favour DON’T.

If any of my friends or relatives ask my advice on buying a PC I always find them what they need in a local shop for exactly that reason.
PC World may not be particularly cheap or particularly knowledgeable but as you say, if you get a problem the PC goes in the car and you make a fuss at the customer service desk. And you can do it on a Sunday.
That's well worth the extra few quid you might pay over buying it from an online retailer.
Components are a different matter of course. You rarely get anything worth buying in the shops. You have to get them online.

Wow seems like a nightmare. I reckon you should be able to get your money back if it isn't fit for the purpose it was intended for.

They should have replaced the hard drive completely. Seems like it'll start to develop bad sectors or bad blocks. I'd ask them to replace it tbh.

My experience with Mesh was completely the opposite. I bought my first ever PC from them about 10 years ago. It cost me a month and a half salary at the time (£1250 if I remember). I did have a problem with the Mitsubitshi monitor (CRT) which stopped working on the 2nd day, but when I called the Mesh helpline they told me to call Mitsubitshi directly. I called and they shipped out a new one to me next day and picked up the same monitor.

In addition, I found I was missing the motherboard CD and manual and when I called the Mesh helpline they sent out the pack next day.
However, it does seem like they've gone downhill and I think they did from about 5 years or so.

Re: If your thinking of buying a Mesh Computer. Do yourself a favour DON’T.

I bought a laptop from them last year, they mis-sold me it saying it was better for gaming than another i was looking at (which had dedicated gfx and 17.1" monitor), but this, a PR600 wont even play COD2, it stuggles with WOW *which it didnt like until i got latest drivers for the system which were ony released in last 2 months*, I got sucked in by a better chip, lighter weight and better battery life/efficiency. I tried to get a return to swap it for one I originally wanted but to no avail as I had it longer than 14 days by the time i could afford a game to test it out.

I was thinking of getting a PC from them recently but the low quality parts, and the cost of it all put me off in the end, will be building one myself now. In fact, i'd almost forgot all the hassle I had with them.

Seems like you have had a nightmare. Anyhow have you tried posting on their forums? You can often get better help there, then over the phone with their cs.

Really sounded like a horrible ordeal. Mesh have really gone downhill in the last few years, they used to use good components but now they don't even do that. Like Mithrandir said, call them up and say you'll take them to court because they supplied a product was not fit for its purpose. Ask for a FULL refund (stress it) and if they don't then you can sue them for a lot more including compensation for lost time and stress etc. Next time maybe you could try Beast, they're customer service is so good it's scary! (the boss hand-delivered a PC for someone to get it to them on time when they ran into a water-leak problem during testing!!!)

Re: If your thinking of buying a Mesh Computer. Do yourself a favour DON’T.

    Hi Dormouse,

I have read your post and would ask you to please e-mail your Mesh order number to davey@meshcomputers.com and I will gladly look into your comments and advise accordingly, privately or via this forum.

In regards to your point about “blank disks” as an OEM manufacturer we are not provided driver CDs by our suppliers and as such cannot pass them on to our customers. However all the relevant drivers for new Mesh PCs are available in a folder on the C: drive and we advise that these are backed-up up on receipt of the PC. Whenever we are occasionally provided any drivers CDs/ disks / manuals etc, by any of our suppliers, these are passed on to our customers.

Our hardware support lines are open until 8am-8pm Mon-Friday and until 10am-4pm on Saturday. I can assure you that our engineers would not have asked you to take time off work, when we can contact you during out of office hours.

I can also categorically state that we have never contacted customers to advise that their PC was “one of a group set up incorrectly and I may be experiencing difficulties with it”. This statement is simply untrue and I would not make a comment like this lightly on a public forum.

However, your final comments indicate a possible hard drive fault and on confirmation of your order details, I can arrange a priority repair with a turnaround time of 3 working days. If you have an on-site warranty, I can arrange for our on-site service provider to contact you same day and arrange a convenient time for a visit.

I really would like to try and restore your faith in Mesh, so please do not hesitate to e-mail me directly with your order details.

    Regards

    Hi Zhaoman,

Just to confirm that we have always used branded components from most of the major manufacturers in the IT industry and have maintained these partnerships for many years. Some of these include Asustek, MSI, EVGA, Seagate, Samsung, LG, Hitachi, Sony, Coolermaster, Hauppauge, K-World, Creative, Netgear, Belkin, etc. amongst many others.

Or better still Dormouse, contact Trading Standards.

If you want your money back, by the sounds of it, you have VERY good grounds to exercise that right.

Sorry Kris but there are many things, particularly recently, where MESH have not been that hot.

It might have been a good idea to bundle a CD with all the drivers for the hardware you use, or any value-added software on the disc.

We had an OLD Mesh computer, it was our first PC. Worked flawlessly, absolutely loved it. But that was years ago, probably at least 10 years ago.

Re: If your thinking of buying a Mesh Computer. Do yourself a favour DON’T.

I've had a MESH pc for longer than I care to remember. Its been faultless, but unfortunately it still only runs W98 like it did when I bought it!

I am now on the brink of getting a new PC, but not from MESH or any other builder, I am going to build it myself. I feel after putting up with W98 for all these years, and a bland beige box on my desk, that at last I deserve a half decent looking bit of kit, and there lies the first problem if buying ready built: the choice of cases is very limited. So off down the self build route I go

I guess you find out more about a company when you try their support, than you do when you try their sales. Most everyone out there is extremely charming if you look like you're in the market to become a customer, but its often a different story when you threaten to eat into their profit margins by using their support operations. Logical I suppose, but a good company should not be there just to sell and make a profit, it should include good aftersales support, creating an overall good service to customers with the attendant return trade, and general good recomendations it will create. Sadly aftersales is often overlooked (underfunded?). Ho hum...

Mines been faultless and unlike Dell they seem to be very willing to negotiate prices on the phone.

Re: If your thinking of buying a Mesh Computer. Do yourself a favour DON’T.

I have been involved with 3 Mesh PC's over the years.
The first, a PII 350 on a BX board worked beautifully and I can't remember it causing any issues. It lasted for donkeys apparently.

The second, an early Athlon 1200 was a nightmare until we removed Windows ME and replaced it with 2k Pro. Since then it's been faultless and handed down through my partners family to this day. Her brother still uses it daily for Adobe Illustrator!

Finally my sister is running a modern Intel 6300 and she's had no issues with the hardware whatsoever. Sadly various software issues mean I'm rebuilding it as we speak and it's the first time I've been dissapointed with Mesh. Previously their cut-down motherboards were still standard (if basic) off-the-shelf items. Now you have to chase the directly for drivers but that isn't my issue.

If I own a Dell with their own motherboard I don't need to signup to anything to access the approporiate drivers.
Why Mesh must I do it for you? Drop the registration for drivers and I'd be much more happy.

Other than that I've no complaints.

I never even got the computer delivered. Should have took 10 to 14 working days, still no sign after one month but lots of excuses.
The processors were out of stock, the graphics cards were stuck in customs. It would be delivered by the end of the week. None of these turned out to be true.

Mesh can take your money within one day of ordering but was told the refund could take up to 28 days to come through. Ends up Mesh have my £1400+ for 2 months for a computer they could not supply. Not a bad little earner for Mesh if they string 200 customers per year along like this and just make money off the interest!
Slick sight with great looking computers but do not buy from these clowns. I'm buying local if and when my money is returned
