Quick little help - ad hoc wireless

Ok, I've got my set up like this:

Wall - ethernet - computer

and then on my computer I have a wireless card.

On my mobile phone, I have a wifi thing.

I want my computer to give the internet to my phone.

Now, although I've set up wireless networks before, I can't work out how to set up an ad hoc network, it's a bit confusing. I'm using Vista, too.

Must be someone who's a bit more knowledgable than me? My experience of setting up a wireless network is turning the power on the router, it popping up, typing 192.168.1.1, changing the passwords and the stuff, then just getting all the computers to 'go'.

I'm just going to download the latest drivers for my wireless (it's on an asus P5W, inbuilt wifi)

an adhoc wireless network uses an APIPA address space so that wireless devices can talk to each other.

You'll need something which can act more as a wireless bridge - I think you can get windows to do this by bridging the wired and wiress connections.

Where does your web connection come from ? you'd need to make sure your phone can pick up DHCP settings from where ?

You could also do it if you have 2000 server and set routing and remote access up to turn the box into a wireless router.

Ok, I think I managed to get it working, but ICS doesn't work as my uni network limits DHCP to 1 mac address. Was trying to use my mobile phone for skype, whilst at the same time being able to use the computer for general stuff.

you'd have to set up some NAT at your end

Not really worth it, I'm going home in about a week and don't come back until next year, and I bet it will work fine at home
