    arg tinternet!

I have virgin 2 meg internet which needs changing but....

I connect to my computer by a wired router and when playing games such as cod2, bf2 the pings are terrible and I can barely connect to a cod2 server.
For some bizzare reason when loading cod2 map's it often crashes the computer and I have to reboot.
This only happens when I connect though my router.
When I connect though the ntl modem (direct to computer, no router) I can connect to servers but pings are always the same with or without the router but that is because virgin are crup.

Sorry if it is hard to understand, but it is really annoying.

I don't actually know what the problem is, but a friend of mine said that since Virgin took over her NTL Internet connection, it went from terrible to so bad that its non-existant.

This is in London by the way, so she lives in South-East London, and her ex-boyfriend who lives in North-East London has never had a problem at all with either NTL or Virgin.

So from what I can ascertain is that NTL even before the buy up was a VERY hit and miss kind of company.

I've even heard of incidences with neighbours where one had flawless service from NTL and the other had problem after problem with NTL.

So I guess you should make as much noise as possible if they fail to rectify the problem either leave them or write an official letter of complaint and then write a letter to Ofcom / Oftel highlighting the problems and how they've simply failed to deliver.

Well I am in Poole so.....
I think I might just move from virgin because I phoned to complain and they said my noise ratio (somin like that) was 17 db to 19db and that was lower than it should be, so the man said he would boost it up for me. Ever since he said that the internet has got worse. I then phoned to a chappy in India I could barly understand who kept on saying 'b for bravo' for any word I said

The signal to noise ratio should ideally be above 27db if its lower than that you will have problems. A low SNR is an indication there is a fault, I would say between the street and your modem. Not quite sure how the man could "boost" the SNR as its a measure of signal quality. So if he had fixed the fault, it would have gone up! Phone up again mate and insist on a service visit!
