NTL Gone...

My NTL went off the other night, had my mum ring them up while I was at work and they said it was something I had done to my machine.

So anyway I had a look at the Modem config page and found this:



I was guessing -figures are not normal, so my mum rang them back to have a word, they put me on and said oh there isnt enough power going down the line to the modem?

So they are sending a technician on Saturday.

Just wondering what all you NTL Wizzes think of the image? Is that normal? As I don't really know much about the cable side of things.

some one has been turning down the signals in your box at the end of the road. They did the same to me (Telewest) and my internet went up the wall as did my TV.

what do you enter to get up the modem config?

I have the ntl 250 blue modem.

You can't really do much with it really just shows status and information.

But yeah they must have been messing. Tech is coming on Saturday to sort it out.

I actually managed to get it back on last night for a whole... 2 minutes! Managed to get google up and then it went back off, I think the weather gadget in Vista took all the bandwidth lol.

Doubt that anyone has been "turning up and down" signal in box. More likley a fault mate!

I had no idea you could access that information from the cable modem.

I'll put that in the "learn something new everyday" box, and go back to sleep!

Here's a question - does any of that config information give an indication of the bandwidth I can utilise (down and up)?
I'm on 10Mb but recently, I've not been getting anything like that - more like half.

you can reset the modem and clear logs but that probably wont help.

Yeah, but does any of the information give an indication of the rate I'm actually getting, or is the only way to run a number of download/upload tests?

in the operation configuration page (i think) it tells you your upstream and downstream data rates. As for the actual bandwidth, thats down to the exchange.

They lied, or more likley dumbed it down. You can't turn the signal up or down in a cab, it just doesn't work like that. Some idiot may have taken an extra feed from the pit/bomb and not realised it'd screw your BBI but they didn't turn you up, down left or right let alone on!

hold on, you can have high and low signals......

why are you saying you can't?

downstream power and upstream power can both be changed. If you get a low signal on either you find your internet either cuts out or re syncs all the time
