    NTL modem problems?

Wonder if anyones had similar problems??

Ive recently setup a NTL broadband connection at my missus's student house, and connected the modem (after battling for several hours to get the modem registered with NTL) and finally got it working.. problem is the modem seems to be a bit flakey.. eg whatevers connected to it (pc via ethernet, or the WRT54g router) sometimes struggles to get a dhcp address from the modem, or sometimes the connection between the two drops and takes a couple of re-starts of the modem to get it to come back.. the modem's lights are on as expected.

Has anyone else had this problem/heard of similar NTL issues or dodgy modem?

    Ta

My friend has an NTL connection. He cant get his PC connected via ethernet to the modem reliably.

They have replaced the modem three times and it still has the same problem. Apparently they are going to send round the engineers to fix it.

Currently, for internet sharing he has to use WXP ICS intead of just plugging the modem into a switch to run it.

Not sure if this is the same problem, but when I login to WinXP it takes ages for my net connection (NTL via ethernet) to be established, it never used to be this way hence i thought my router was on the blink. All the lights on my modem/router are correct.

It first tells me that theres a network connection unplugged then it changes and says its searching for an IP addy. I never get this problem with vista, the net is there waiting for me to use when i login on vista.

If you have the old silver surfboard type modem and a fast connection (mine had the problem at 10meg) then that's most likely your issue. Ask for a new one and you should be okay.
