I must confess though Re-Invented, I thought Belkin replaced damaged equipment if protected with the surge protector, not the protector for doing its job. Damn good purchase if they replace it for doing its job
They replace the surge protector for doing its job which was the main reason for me buying one, as i thought that was werid. It does say in the manual if you still happen to have one.

Surge protectors are not worth it, esp for lightning protection !!

I used to work in that industry and there was only ONE company that made a true lightning strike proof conditioner/UPS etc... They used a massive test rig which could simulate the ANSI and DIN requirements, a really scary piece of kit I can tell ya ! We blew up dog only knows how many competitors units
    Cheers, David

What used to be our next door neighbours chimney got hit, it went down there phone line to the pole outside and up into our house, blew a hole in serial controller chip on my dads machine, nuked his modem and network card, went down the BNC cable to my mothers machine and fraggled her network card and then down the cable to my machine, and reset my BIOS...

There must be better uses for a piece of kit like that than to fry a few chips.............may be add some fish?

Only time I got hit, pre Belkin, it burn't a HD so that I could not use over half its capacity Still, could have been far worse.
Will check out small print on Belkin, if I can get a new one after its done the job, then its a case of yippee.

Unless its a major thunder/lightning storm I usually keep everything plugged in, all my stuff pc, printer, lamps, t.v dvd player, hi-fi, 360, gamecube, air con etc are plugged into belkin surge protectors, and although im not entirely sure how reliable they are, everything stays in, although if it gets bad/close then I do switch off most things, just leaving either the t.v on, or the wireless router, then switch to using the macbook on its battery.

Not sure about the belkin ones, I use these:
    http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/st...oductId=682714

Which on closer inspection.. seems to be a stupid thing to do, as your equipment is only covered if

Damage has not been caused by accident or lightning.

yes...to claim successfully he'd have to stand on his own roof, wearing a copper pan on his head, with tinfoil boots, and the plug from his Surge Protector inserted into his own posterior, holding a large metal spike and hosing himself with electrolytic fluid, in a massive electric storm.

Should be ok to claim after that though....
