Hello, I've got something of a dilemma here. I'm trying to find the perfect RDP program I can for use on my Windows 98SE machine.
Here are some of the things I am looking for:
Very very fluid screen interaction - I'd like to be able to remotely play 3d games like Unreal Tournament if possible, or at least get somewhere very close to that point of speed. I realize that's a bit of a strech, but you get the idea, I'm looking for blazing seemless speed while keeping a high resolution and color depth. Bandwidth isn't an issue so much as I plan on using this in a LAN setup, but it would be nice if minimal bandwidth was used. Just as long as it's designed to give a seamless experience...
Obviously, it has to support Windows 98SE, as that is going to be the server.
Of course I'd like something that supports seamless sound and direct file transfer, though I'm already asking for a lot. At least sound is what I'm looking for, but again I'm in a beggers position.
It doesn't have to use RDP. I mean I don't care what protocol it uses, and remote access thru the Internet isn't a requirement, just on the LAN. Basically as long as I can use my computer without actually being at the keyboard, I'm interested.
Dun care if it supports Mac/Linux. Would be a good bonus if it did, but not nessecary, just Windows 98
Free would be a great bonus, but I'm willing to pay for it if need be. As long as it meets my requirements...
I'm using RealVNC right now, and as far as the program goes, it's unbelievably painless to use and install, but the interaction speed is really slow for me, and theres no sound. Which is too bad because otherwise I really like the simplicity. I tried using TurboVNC, but it seems to be a little buggy for me as the client screen wasn't updating automatically when I dialed in remotely on my LAN.
Anyone know of any software I should use? I've looked at Radmin 2.2 and LogMeIn, but I'm not sure if they would really fit the bill here. Radmin 3.1 seems to be what i'm looking for, as it claims to devlier 100s of screens per second, but it doesn't support Windows 98 (doh!) I also saw Virtual GL, but that seems to be co-dependant on another software program that I don't believe supports windows 98(argh!)
