3 Q's re home wireless network

Have BT Total BB and a BT Voyager 2500v wireless router. Have three desktops running from it, all wired (my pc on 3rd floor from a 30m cable!) but speeds are slow for my liking. Considering getting a couple of Siemens Gigaset 108G Wireless hi-gain Sticks from Scan (LN16794) but have a few concerns:

    1. any compatibility issues with the vogager?
    2. is it worth upgrading the router for increased speeds?
    3. can I expect increased or reduced download speeds with the wireless?

Note: can pick up wireless from the 3rd floor on my notebook. Below the speed from 3F with cable:

    1. I wouldn't expect so, a general rule is to stay with the same manufacturer for wireless stuff, but you don't have to

    2. The voyager may be a reason for slow sync speeds, I've finally replaced my Voyager 205 with a Linksys AM200 and sync at a far higher speed now (used to max out at around 200Kbps, was updating my Ubuntu install today at just below 400!)

    3. A 54Mbps wireless connection will not be faster than a 100Mbps Ethernet cable, but it will still be faster than your internet connection. A wireless connection may introduce more latency though, which could be an issue if you game online etc (I could be wrong about the extra latency though!).

If I have the option, I would always go for a wire over no wire.

Don't forget, if you're far from an access point, you might find yourself with limited connectivity and/or frequent disconnects.

For me it's always a no brainer, if you can use a cable then use a cable - more reliable and faster and cheaper.
