I have a job later to day which is quite a trek out of Bristol so am doing some research as don't want to bring the PC back here if I cannot sort it on-site.

The customer has said that his BB has stopped working with error message 680 No Dial Tone when trying to connect. His ISP is TalkTalk and modem a USB Speedtouch330.

Now, is it likely their is a fault with the line?

I have read that if his line has been upgraded then new drivers may be required. If his line his uncapped there are different drivers again, is there an easy way to find out the status of his line, even diagnose a fault with his line?
