Angry Virgin Media and Wireless Router connection help please?!

Hi. I recently purchased a 'Buffalo Airstation WHR-G54S' to use as wireless on Virgin Broadband 2 MB. I believe I have set this up ok and the Internet seems to be working. I didn't have to fiddle with any settings, which in my (lack of) experience I have, in the past always had to mess with various settings. I query, however, that when I run the 'ipconfig' through Run, cmd, I get a 192.168 address range. Although when I connect to the internet and google 'What's my IP?', I get a totally different IP Address for some reason, why am I getting this conflict of one IP address on the net being different to the IP Address I get when running ipconfig. Is it because my cabled hardware has it's own IP Address and the wireless router then dishes out the 192.168 address?

In addition, when I try to host a server now on All Seeing Eye for Call of Duty gaming, my friends are unable to connect? Please help ....... thanks!

What you are seeing is normal. The 192.168 address would be the address assigned to your computer by your router. The external IP, which is different to your internal IP, is assigned by your ISP.

As for your Call of Duty problem, do you have a firewall up?

Edit: Why did you make 2 threads with exactly the same question in the same forum?

Re: Virgin Media and Wireless Router connection help please?!

Apologies, I made an error and didn't know how to remove it. I'm new to all this and just trying ha!! Thanks for the reply, so you say this is how it should be with regards to the IP Address? I have a windows firewall operating and Norton Anti-Virus. It previously worked when Hosting a game on 'All Seeing Eye'. I would get my mates to add my server on their side using IP Address. But now when they add it it's stating that I'm not actually on when I am. Thank you.

Have you made sure that the firewall isn't blocking incoming connections for Call of Duty? What version of windows are you running?

Virgin Media runs proxy servers & a lot of these web based sites see the VM proxy server IP not your real IP.

Re: Virgin Media and Wireless Router connection help please?!

it will work if you port forward
from what i understand you want to host a game and get your mates to connect to it?
to do that you need to setup your router to send any requests on a certain port to your computer where it can find the app and let your mates connect.
What you need to do is find the port for the all seeing eye app...im trying to look for it now but not having much luck. Then you need to go into the router setup and set your computer to have a static IP. Then port forward the port the all seeing eye app needs to the IP you have setup.

If you understand and can do that then great! if not...i can find out how to do it for you as i have that router at home...
