    I know, it does work like that.. But it could be forwarding my traffic in clear text. I would like to know if it is encrypted or not.

    I believe that all traffic to the TOR network is encrypted by default, and just won't go if it isn't.
    If you just want it for anonymous browsing, XBBrowser from XeroBank (used to be torrify) can be quite useful - it's a modified version of firefox, designed to use the Tor network, or if you pay, their own Tor-type network.
