What do you mean by "hiding your IP address?"
Your public IP address has to be visible for packets to be routed to it. The ownership of that IP address (if it is static) is probably registered to your ISP, although if you have a block of IP addresses they will probably be identified to you by name.
If you are concerned about webservers identifying your public IP address, then there is little you can do about that unless you go through an anonymising proxy so the website picks up the proxy IP address (a bit like NAT on a home network). In that case only the proxy will 'know' the originating IP address.

Why would you want to hide it anyway?

The fact that you have to ask the question probably means you dont really need to do it.
If you just want to anonymously surf, then you can google anonymous websurfing (. whatever etc)
But i doubt anything you can do is truley going to "hide" your ip address
I don't think I need to add anything to the above. Short of using something like 'tor' or other anonymous proxies , hiding your IP address doesn't really achieve much.

Everything can be tracked back to you. How else do you think information can be sent to and from your PC.
The only way to hide your IP address, would be to route through another IP address. There are companies like Relakks that offer this service to allow you to surf anonymously, but if they get a court summons for "what is the real IP address for this anonymous IP that downloaded this illegal file at 10:32 PM 2 nights ago?" then, depending on what country they are in, they may have to provide that info to the authorities.
Once the authorities have your real IP address, it refers to a geographical location. They will simply look up what company is ISP for that location, and then issue them a summons to release the name & address linked to your IP address.
Tor Tor: anonymity online is probably what you want.
another option is to use a different program (cant remember what its called now) that will use a list of proxies and cycle through each one every minute.
tor is probably your easiest and best bet though. unless you are using p2p, in which case they will ban you and possibly come round your house and castrate you
This might help
Tor: anonymity online

Another vote for tor.
How do you know if your connection to the Tor network is encrypted? Does it say the encryption status anywhere?
I realize that it comes out of the Tor exit node as an unencrypted transmission, but I'm just talking about YOUR connection with the Tor route.
^ bump pls
ok, disable tor, go to WhatIsMyIP.com
enable tor, go to WhatIsMyIP.com
if the numbers it gives you are different, then its working
