They're only the ways that the ISP industry has found to manage a finite resource with near infinite demand. Remember when all you could get was 512k? Can you imagine going back to that? As faster speeds become available people want to make use of ALL of the available bandwidth, and then some. I personally think that throttling/shaping and bandwidth limits are all fine SO LONG AS THE ISP IS CLEAR AND UP FRONT ABOUT THEM.

I see the entire "shaping/throttling" and the "unlimited usage" as one and the same.

Both sides need to be addressed as selling an "8mb unlimited" package should NOT include throttling or a FUP, its 100% completely misleading advertising IMO.

tbh VM are fairly open about it - all the info is there if you go looking for it.
The lowest that anyone on VM cable gets throttled back to for downloads is 1Mb (from 2Mb), 4Mb gets throttled to 2Mb & 20Mb gets throttled to 5Mb.

I'm getting around ~17 Meg which whilst it isn't 20 is more than fast enough for me.

There are loads of people who synchronise at 8mbs, who can download at speeds close to that...

Re: Does your Broadband SUCK please read

I just wonder why in countries like norway, sweden, finland, netherlands.. the residential speeds are so much better than over here..
    e.g.

100mbit Full-Duplex or Half-Duplex is the equivlent to £20 per month, and you DO actually get those speeds.

Why is the damn country (when it comes to internet/isps) so bloody lame.

All the isp's suck really. The only way i have found to get around the speed capping/traffic shaping is to open up multiple threads for each download or use smart torrent clients (Azur).

    Anywyas,

that was my lil 10pence rant.
