Sky`s new netgear router has been hacked

For anyone on sky with the new netgear possible its now possible to extract your username and password from the box and the process is very easy indeed

DG934G Source Code - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky!

It takes a couple of minutes and then all you need to do is put the username/password into your chosen router and your away

I have to confess I am not a computer wizz, but will not be told by Sky which router I can and cannot use, so I followed the link, downloaded the large zipped file, unzipped it. Can you tell me what I need to do next?

    look at post 11

the source code won't help you much as-is, but post 11 links to a modified firmware, which enables telnet login, which will allow you to extract username/password (whcih you can feed to a non-sky router)

Re: Sky`s new netgear router has been hacked

What is it that drives Sky to limit the choice of router? its not like on Cable where you can hack the modem to get a faster speed, so I can't see what they are gaining from being restrictive?

Re: Sky`s new netgear router has been hacked

I suppose if all the customers are using one device to connect, it means their scripts for support staff can be shorter

If you ask them, they'll give you a better worded version of that I'd expect!

"We restrict our customers to using only Device X to connect, in order to allow us to specialise in solving issues with this piece of hardware, to ensure any issuse our customers have can be solved quickly, and efficiently" etc etc

"If you're not on the edge, you're taking up too much room!"

Re: Sky`s new netgear router has been hacked

It does make support a lot easier.

Also makes sure that any changes made to the network can be tested and know to work to all users.,

I have worked for 2 isp`s and the thought of having 1 router for all customers is very appealing. It rules out so many variables when it comes to faults. It means you can concentrate on the matter at hand instead of wondering if their 10 pound router from the car boot sale could be the cause of the issue.

BE do similar with the bebox which is just a rebadged speedtouch.

Saying that I do like using my draytek. I have changed my network at home now because i`ve run out of ports on the router so I now have the sky router downstairs with my draytek upstairs on pppoe passthrough

you'll get the same treatment for using unauthorized satellite kit with sky, or unauthorized cable kit with virgin
