Depends on your home network - and you don't have to use all the features!

Heh, fair point - just OTT for my home network of one PC and a couple of laptops :-)

Right enough - what advantages does that have over, say, XP Pro? I'm somewhat clueless when it comes to server OS's :-)

XP pro has a 10 connection limit, home server acts as a media stream to Xbox 360, media center etc, home backup. XP Pro is ok for basic file share but if you are going to file share then save the money on a COA and use Linux, its not hard to do at all.

True that. From what you're saying it doesn't sound like the home server edition provides anything that Linux can't do for free (except maybe the XBox stuff if it's proprietary).
