im prepared to learn anything new but the guids and wiki's do not help u at all if your new to linux. the guids are too vague for example they say to install ctorrent you need to update your ipkconfig or whatever its called and then install it. how? i had to figure out how to actualy install it using a special command but it diddnt work due to some sort of conflict error that i posted in the forums and diddnt get a clear answer on how to do so.

i even remember posting here for help

    NSLU2-Linux - HowTo / InstallUnslungFirmware browse

    Seems fairly straightforward to me.

    I used this guide

    NSLU2-Linux - Unslung / NewUsersGuide browse

when I hacked two slugs three years ago. I printed it out first and followed it to the letter. One slug subsequently died (hardware failure) the other is happily streaming music to Itunes/soundbridge/other_streaming_applications on the network. I had to reboot it recently, but noted i passing that the uptime was about 380 days.

The Project pages are a bit confusing at first, but everything is hyperlinked.

It isn't particularly difficult, but like most things in life, if it is new, it takes some effort to get the best out of it. And just what is so difficult about typing in a command like

    mkdir /<path>/<new_directory_name>

    to make a new directory?

Good luck - I do appreciate that it is tricky - particularly if you are new to *nix type operating systems and conventions, and the concept of package management and command line interfaces.

As usual, there will be people on Hexus who have been there, done it (and maybe got the T shirt! All I will say is that when you are installing the unslung package, follow the instructions to the letter!

I hope your next attempt is successful and you reach that "light bulb moment" when it all suddenly clicks into place!
