Happy cable customer here too, currently maxing the 4mb line out at 480k/s

Just hope the 10mb upgrade does not degrade this to dialup speeds

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

Have been with NTL (pre-VM) for about five years at my parents house, no problems and whenever there was an issue, they seemed to get it sorted pretty quick.

Have been with VM in my place for the best part of six months and once again no issues.

I guess it all depends who you deal with on the other end of the dog and bone.

Tech support is excellent too - you actually get to speak with a knowledgeable technician in the UK rather than a call center script-reading numpty
The referral scheme with Plusnet gives up to £45 (if incl home telephone service) plus a monthly credit for as long as the referee is with Plusnet. This ultimately means you could have your BB for free. My work colleague was with Pipex and had a terrible time leaving them.

The other items like Fixed IP etc are with PN too but as this is a 'VM' thread I shall stop there!

Ultimately everyone knows someone who has good/bad experiences - just a matter of hedging bets I suppose.

VM cable broadband and the adsl based broadband the op has are completely different and should not be compared.

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

I've been with Virgin (NTLWorld) for 7 years now and although I initially had some very frustrating problems with broadband I have had none since. I get TV, Landline with free weekend and evening calls and 4 mb broadband for £30, which I think is fairly good. Although I know you can barter it down a lot lower when you're contract is up for renewal.

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

I guess some people will have good service and others might not..

I had a terrible time with Virgin internet and when I mentioned problems, they never helped or did anything to solve any issues I had..

I've gone back to Plus.net but I'm having a few speed issues still.. If it continues I will ask what is wrong and see what they come back with.

Personally I think BT should upgrade the lines so that they can handle the broadband speeds as at the moment speeds for me seem to be getting worse and worse

Is the speed related to any sites per se or constant download speeds regardless of sites?

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

Switched back to plus.net as I said in a previous post.. It seems to be god awful slow at times, but I think its the forum's I'm visiting sadly After doing a few speed tests at Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test the line is back to its normal speed (which is over the 6000kbps mark, which is nice compared to 100kbps I had with Virgin!!)
