Angry Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

I subscribed to the non-cable VirginMedia Broadband. It bad customer service really disappointed me. I suggest customers never never use the non-cable virgin broadband!

The routers is Netgear, which wireless does not work. I sent over 20 emails and called over 14 times to the Virgin customer service, they never answered my question.

The broadband usually does not work between 4pm and 12midnight--it is so slow that I can not open any website. Every time when I complained to VirginMedia about the serious low speed broadband problem, they responded me by the automatic reply, never answer my problem. I called the customer service, they said the speed is "up to 8M".The customer service refused me to talk to manager, and refused any refund. The operators said as soon as the speed is lower than 8M (even it is 0),it obeys the contract. So I suggest you do not subscribe to VirginMedia broadband--its customer service is the worst I have ever met in the UK.

Aaah, welcome to the VM BB victims club
Use the tack that broadband is by UK definition I believe 10x dialup. As they are not providing this, they are not providing a bradband service & are thus in breach of contract.

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

    persist!

I complained here about poor VM speeds about a month a go. (my wife made the calls to NTL as the account is in her name, and she handles frustration with call centres much better than me - much less swearing!)

we logged a call a week for some weeks my nominally 20Mb line often got as high 1Mb! Eventually they referred us to their 0900 technical help line - very expensive but apparently refundable - if they accept you have a problem requiring a call out.

    I hope so!

They got me to reboot in windows - safe mode with networking and then re-test the speed - with all the drivers removed we crept upto nearly 1.5mb. After a disagreement about "zonealarm being the problem". They agreed their was a problem and sent an engineer the next day.

1 new modem later - Friday evening 7.5Mb - pretty decent for the peak time.

I'd be happier if it hadn't taken so long - but I'm am now pretty much a happy customer

I don't think it would make any difference if you were on vb or anyone else . At certain times the infrastructure ( the backbone pipeline to some or all of the providers is just not big enough.

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

I've had from other ISP's a connection speed of about 7mb, which can give me download speeds of over 750k/sec stained.. But with Virgin so far, I'm managing 5k/sec at some points.. I've complained and emailed them, but nothing back from them yet..

Asked for my MAC code Monday to move to Plus.net as I've been with them before and they said I should have it before Friday. Well its Saturday today and i still havent had it, so I cant say I'd be routing for people to go with virgin at all..

I'm on their ADSL line bit not the cable so it might be making things better or worse, I aint sure..

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

I agree entirely, Virgin Non-cable broadband was awful, luckily last week we switched over to a new supplier, but I had also sent a letter before xmas complaining about the slow speeds and non-connection and they only just got back to me last week, stating they had a back-log no doubt to the number of complaints that have been getting.

How did you move to? I'm thinking of going back to my orignal ISP, Plus.net

Re: Never Never use Virgin Broadband!

I moved to adsl24 they are an entanet reseller and since the switch my speeds shot up and have never dropped to the measly virgin speed I was getting. I have also heard good things about plus.net lately, Good Luck with your switch.

If you are would you care to go via my siggy link for a referral?

I am (still) with PN for many years and their support/speed has been very good. Prices are good but the referral scheme is great and don't know many if any others that pay you.

Freedom2surf also operate a referral scheme (£15 per sign up). Been with them for 4 years and very happy, despite recently being taken over by Pipex and then Tiscali (nothing has really changed). I like them for their inclusive fixed IP, no port blocking and no problems running home servers - they even give you direct access to your PTR record!

Tech support is excellent too - you actually get to speak with a knowledgeable technician in the UK rather than a call center script-reading numpty
