New Netgear ROuter Problems - Cant connect to the Internet

    Hi all.

Well i have had the SKY router for a while now and all is well.

I contacted them a few days ago about something and they asked me if i wanted one of their 'New Style' routers that look like a miniature SKY HD box. They sent it and arrived yesterday.

For some reason, and this is where i need advice, my PC picks the router up, and the LAN is functioning as it should but it just cannot see an internet connection.

I thought my phone line may be down so i plugged the old one in using ALL the same wiring and it found the interent right away.

The lights all come on on the new one but the Internet connection light doesnt go green, its stays amber (no interent found).

Any ideas as i effed around with it for about 2 hours last night and cant for the life of me think what it can be.

BTW.......it did actually pick up my upstream/downstream/noise margins etc. It just couldnt assign any IP's so i think thats why it is not working properly (obviously)

Any help is very appreciated but if you have any ideas please simplify as much as possible as all the networking stuff really isnt my thing.

    Cheers all.

If you've got synchronisation (i.e. an upstream/downstream rate) then it sounds like a authentication problem - i.e. username/password

Other one that catches people is ppoa/ppoe - it's one or t'other. I would of thought Sky would send the box out setup right though! Sky is ppoa.

Your connection status should be like (At the bottom of the default router page you will see Router Statistics and Connection Status buttons.)

    and stats:

I suspect a screenshot of those two will help greatly!

Look for specific help here: Sky Router - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky!

Other than that - good luck and have a good weekend
