    XP Thin Clients

How much like XP pro are these clients? Can you install programs on them?

I want to make a Slingbox client for my TV in the bedroom and thought a thin clients with the slingbox software would be perfect!

I assume you mean one of the various XPE dumb terminals that you can get around the market? If so I would guess that it depends what you buy. I put a call centre in place using XPE terminals and while they worked pretty much like XP Pro from a user perspective I'd be dubious about using them to stream video - the graphics chipsets I've seen in them just aren't built for that kind of thing.

And yes you can install apps - there's usually some form of local storage (solid state drive/flash memory) but space is usually VERY tight.

    Re: XP Thin Clients

Don't these depend on having a server to send them data and actually run the app too?

Erm... that's what I was trying to clear up - is he talking about a network boot thin client or an XP Embedded client?

Customizing Windows XP Embedded thin clients seems to give a good overview.

    Re: XP Thin Clients

its a XP embedded. Sling client runs video at 640 x 480 so even a thin clent should be able to handle it.

    Re: XP Thin Clients

I was thinking less about the screen resolution (the Neoware terminals I used would happily support dual head 1280x1024) and more about the actual raw power to process the streamed media - it's sounds to me like the decoding will be done on the terminal, and I'm not convinced that one would have the grunt...

Have you got a device in mind?
