    PCI ADSL Modem

    What's the best ADSL modem to use with my ClarkConnect (Linux) box?

    Thanks

    From my (little) experience with linux and pci adsl modems, there is little to no chance of getting hold of a modem that doesn't require quite a bit of tweaking to get sorted.

    http://www.adslguide.org.uk/hardware...3/pci-roundup/

    Two years old, but most of the modems in that review are still the main ones on the market.

    Mine is a Conexant 3805 chipset based card, and it was an absolute pooface to get running on a red hat linux box. I managed to get it running, briefly. I'm not the biggest linux guy in the world though, so I'm sure a guru could easily figure it out and get it working 100% stable.

    I've just ordered the dabsvalue 1 port ethernet ADSL modem/router, anyway, so I'll be getting rid of this, soon. If you want it, and can wait a couple of days until I get the router set up, you can have it for a tenner.

    It's this one:

    would an external ethernet modem be better as it doesn't require any software on a PC which mightn't work with linux. All you need id to set it up to use LAN for connection.

    That's the thing though, you can't get a true ethernet ADSL modem like you can get a true ethernet Cable modem.

    You got all the software etc that came with that modem Theo?

    Might have to take you up on that offer. Do you have a trust account?

    Yeah, I've got the original cd here - there's only Windows drivers on it, though. I'll put the linux drivers (from themad-house.co.uk, about 45mb) and anything else you might need to get it working with clarkconnect (guides for red hat, kernels, pppoatm, etc) on a disc for you, though.

    £10 inc via bank transfer is fine, sir. I'll have little use for it when my router is set up, and I need to buy the missus a birthday card. Fingers crossed, and it will be delivered here tomorrow. So a possible transfer of funds tomorrow night, and I'll pop it in the post on Wednesday?

    Any PCI modem should be easier than setting up a USB one - and I managed to get a USB one working. If you want help with a Conexant PCI modem I should be able to help - and also know a guy who's specifically written a driver for RH/ClarkConnect.

    Drop a PM if you wish.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();
