It's funny cause people are telling me, "Sky (LLU) and Be Internet have much better contention ratios than the other ISP's so you get close to your maximum speed with them". But that's how it was with every ISP I've ever been with, and within a year or two, they all go downhill =P
Yeap with Sky you need to get the TV and with just one channel or selection it comes to £30 pm with internet iirc. So the BB is only a tenner if you're with them. Been with Be* since september 07 and it's all been fine except for a 1 month bad patch where the exchanges were overloaded but it got fixed in 3 weeks. It wasn't constant lag but when alot of people were on the speeds would slow down.

One call to retentions at VM will get you an upgrade to 4mb for the same money as 2mb and all 4mb connections are being upgraded to 10mb for free: VM are rolling out the 10mb upgrade now.

the only problem with Be or any of the other ADSL ISPs is the quality of the line e.g. my mother is with O2 (Be in disguise as they own Be but 02 was a better deal) but she can only get ~4Mb download due to line quality, even if she was on the 16Mb package she would still oonly get ~4Mb.
Cable tends to be better in that regard.

when you phone VM ask for retentions not CS.

Re: Any tips on picking an ISP?

Switched to O2 from BT based on this thread. Went with O2 as my line cannot support high speeds anyway and I have an O2 mobile.

They seemed to have stopped the 100day trial for home connections though.

Traget connection date is 29/04 so will let you know how it compares to BT who I have used for the last 7 years.

Big savings though, I was payng £30 a month for 2mb from BT, soon to be getting it for £7.50
