lol, its not a decent measure. I know of some horror stories with people thinking they were close to an exchange (by close i mean less than a mile) but their cable length was 8 miles. Even at my work place, we aren't far from the exchange(3-4 miles) Our max speed is just 1meg. Cable length is everything, postcode length means diddly squat i'm afraid.

Would you like to provide some proof of these horror stories or information about cable length?

You could look at it in the light of...if you are 1 mile away and the cable is 8 miles long...then living 2 miles away the cable is possibly going to be 16 miles long.

Looked at from this perspective the "distance from the exchange" theory at least holds some value.

It's reasonably common. Remember that the line doesn't run as the crowflies, and sometimes it can go miles in the opposite direction beofre coming round again to the exchange.

Mines been rubbish since the start of the contract. Really wishing I could switch to a different provider.

Any opinions on the best provider of the moment? Cable not in the area though
