What's the best way to escape from BT Broadband contract?

I'm really peeved with my BT broadband service. Less than 4 months into an 18 month contract for BT's flagship unlimited product, I'm already onto my 4th Homehub having had the previous three replaced due to two Homehubs having wireless range issues (one less than 2metres!), dropped wired connections and their BB phone service persistently falling over. These have been genuine issues affecting more than one of my systems and not something daft that I have configured incorrectly. My missus lost the plot and tried to cancel but as expected was met with the "MAC will cost you the remaining term" response.
It's all very well having reasonable freephone BB support but I am weary from the amount of time I have spent resolving the issues with BT support (and the death-by-verbal from frustrated teenagers!) , and have now just lost faith in this product.
What's the best way to legitimately escape from the contract? Downloading massive amounts of data during the day for example (don't want to invoke fair-usage policy breaches). Effectively, I probably need to show BT have breached their t&c's, or do something that entices BT to breach their t&c's.
    Any suggestions very welcome.

If you can wait a little while longer, they're changing their T&C's to include the use of Phorm. Once that's happened you can get the contact severed for them imposing unfair contractual changes.

Depending on the amount of time your broadband has been unavailable (as a result of the dodgy equipment provided by BT) you may have a case for claiming breach of contract already. That said, I've no idea how long a connection has to be unavailable for this to be the case - I'm sure someone will know though

Broadband is rarely down, it's just the periphery services that persistently fail. And only minutes before I typed this, the BT BB phone had disassociated itself from the homehub. I suspect this will lead to homehub number 5 being sent.
I'm starting to think that the service has already reached the stage of being unacceptable to the extent of me being permitted to leave without penalty. Surely?

Disconnect the home hub, buy a DG834.

Job done - stable connection for me on a long line ever since I installed the Netgear Modem/Router.

The homehub is really bad. Got to agree with Dave - replace it

Everyone I know has had to replace their HomeHub for one reason or another. The NAT options are terrible as well.

I do occasionally use a Linksys wireless router instead of the homehub when the need arises, but this removes access to incoming and outgoing BT Homehub BB phonecalls, as would any permanent replacement of homehub with an alternative router.
Bottom line returning to my original question: rather than find a workround, how can I legitimately intice BT to break their t&c's?

They arent allowed to do this. If you ask for a MAC code, they must supply it unconditionally (within 5 days IIRC) regardless of what contract you have left. The contract is a completely different issue.

Once you have the MAC and they ask you for the remainder of the contract fees, just tell them that the service is not up to scratch and you are willing to see them in court if they wish to take it that far.

    OR

As previously advised, once they start rolling out Phorm, tell them it isnt what you signed up to and you wish to leave. As its a change in contract they are obliged to let you leave FOC.

My bad phrasing. The response from BT when asked for a MAC was that it could be issued but that would also mean they would chase the remaining contract term payment. There was also some suggestion of a defined procedure in cases of alleged poor service leading to early contractual release.
BT know that I don't want to get involved in a long, complicated possibly expensive battle over interpreting what is acceptable service and what is unacceptable service sufficient to release contractual financial obligations.
I have simply lost faith in the product and want rid by the simplest method at zero cost and minimal time effort.

In that case, wait until form is rolled out.
That way, you can leave anytime, in a certain timeframe, with no penalty.
