Password protected?

Hi guys, I'm having a problem with setting up a password on my wireless router. We have a connection that was password protected but it says that a network area cable is unplugged, so we set up a new connection, it is untitled and is open to anyone, I have realised this is obviously not safe and have tried to mess with the settings but cannot find how to put a password on it so that only the 2 laptops and 2 computers in our house can use it. I've searched around Google but its been no help. I have an Addon router if this is any help.

Do you mean set up a password for the admin functions of the router, or access to the wireless connectivity?

Generally ypu don't add a specific password for access, but if you use encryption to protect the link (wep or wpa) then the fact that the encryption key is known only to those devices that want to connect acts as an authentication mechanism as well.

How you do that depends on the router, but you will need to enter the admin pages of the router. What make and model is it?

If you can't access those, you may need to do a factory reset, but that will wipe all configuration parameters and the router will have to be set up again from scratch.
