This is useful to know. I can opt out of WHOIS for .co.uk domains but not .com so i've been looking for a company that can do WHOIS privacy for .com domains.

    I normally use ukreg.com for .uk/.eu/.tv, and gandi.net for .com/.org/.net

You can get two domains for the less than what they charge if you go elsewhere.

Re: where to register a domain name

Yeah but the addins that they give away for nothing; privacy, mail, etc, make the difference hardly worth worrying about. Plus their control panel gives me various options with DNS that most of the other registrars don't offer.

One other option is to get yourself an OpenSRS reseller account, that gives you the ability to set whatever you want as the visible contact information for your domains.

Re: where to register a domain name

The only thing they have that not every registrar offers is 5 mailboxes for nothing, nothing to get excited about.

Every registrar I've ever used has yet you change your contacts per domain... But if you enter false information you risk losing it.

Re: where to register a domain name

Bit of a thread bump... but what's the crack now guys? need a .com and a .co.uk... will probably use QiQ for the hosting unless someone knows of somewhere better too?

    Cheers,
    Mark

Still 123reg here too. They've never given me a reason to change.

Re: where to register a domain name

I have most of my domains with GANDI (or shifting others I have with other registrars to them). 5 free mailboxes and a free SSL certificate with every domain purchased.

Re: where to register a domain name

I register lots of domains so:

    123-reg.co.uk for .co.uk's - £2.99 / 2yr

For .com/.net/.org its usually best going stateside - (123reg charge £9.99)
    enom.com for .com/.net/.org - £4.50/yr ($6.95 /yr)

My enom account is a special deal though - normally £6 ($8.95/yr)

If it's just the one or two domains, then stick with 123-reg

Good service - it's not always about cost - but day-to-day hosting is what matters more than domain registrar.

Re: where to register a domain name

I would recommend 123-reg, over the last couple of years I have registered around 10 or 11 domains and found them very straight forward and easy to deal with.

As for management of the domains / updating name servers etc. their control panel is very easy to navigate to what you need quickly.

If you require hosting with the domain, then maybe shop around a little as some hosting companies had combined offers on at the start of the year so you may get them cheaper but on the whole I'd recommend going with 123-reg!
