    Wireless yet wired

Right, getting a laptop for christmas, to take with me when I'm going out anywhere far, or at a mates, aswell as for surfing downstairs, so i want wireless internet don't I?

But, afaik, wireless slows down your connection, so I want my main rig to remain wired and be able to have the laptop still connnected wirelessly?

    Possible?

What will I need, as cheap as possible too, well, cheap-ish, thanks guys!

    It's 4.98*

    Re: Wireless yet wired

All you need is a wireless router connected to your modem. You plug in your main rig using a wire and connect the laptop wirelessly.

Your broadband connection will never be able to max out the speed of a wireless signal (g = 54 Mbps), but the strength of the signal will be affected by obstacles (walls, ceiling, etc.), so that is when you will see a 'slow down'.

A decent router will cost £30 - 40. I have this one (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=814551) and have never had any problems with it. Just make sure you get the right one, i.e. an ADSL or cable router depending on your broadband type...although, the one I just mentioned can do both.
