    Router needed!

It would be awesome if D-Link DIR-655 could support PPPoA WAN which is a must for SKY.

    So on the hunt for:

Gigabit router with preferably 8 ports for SKY broadband,

    any thoughts/recommendations?

    Ta!

Ah, what you have there is a cable router, and you need an ADSL one. The best advice I can give you if you're looking for 8 gigabit ports is to pick up a normal ADSL2 router and hang an 8 port gigabit switch off one of the ports - I've not seen any with 8 gigabit ports built in.

What about one with 4 ports? Got one 5 port Gigabit switch already but don't want it all to look like xmas tree

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142576...ctype=extended seems to do what you're asking, buit to be honest I would stick with a seperate switch and uplink it to the router.

I thought it was against Sky's T&Cs to attach your own hardware to their service

If not, how do you get your ADSL username and password out of them?

    Re: Router needed!

There are tools and methods, a quick google should do it

The various different Sky routers were hacked a while ago now. I think there are even a couple of threads on here.

    Re: Router needed!

cheapest way is to just use a seperate gigabit switch and hook it up to a regular 10/100 router
