    Should i 'upgrade' router

I took advantage a couple of years back of Talk Talks free broadband phone package evrything phone calls and free broadband £25 a month and think i've saved a few pennies over the period. I am beginning to think as with computers that i am well behind the up to date hardware that is out there.
I have connected a Thomson Speedtouch 716 v5 WL router the one they provided off of that i run my main pc, Xbox and a devlo booster via plug socket. there is also at any one time an additional 4 wireless laptops working but normally 2. The router ocassionally just switches itself off and reboots itself, i am wondering if it is somehow overloading itself with all the 'drain' from wireless activity requested from it. I know nothing about how they work but it is frustrating because sometimes i play poker online and the internet freezes and reboots itself at the most inapropiate time like when i have pocket Aces! any way basically i was wondering if i can buy another more up to date router that i can just plug and play without changing anything else. or do i have to inform talk talk or change anything else?
    any advice suggestions gratefully appreciated.

you don't have to informa TalkTalk, all you will need is your username and password for TalkTalk to set up the new router.

I don't ahve any specific recomendations for what router to get, but I'm sure others do.

i'm with talktalk. i think they do sell d-link routers. i would go for a netgear setup and it dosnt drop at all. netgear rang max is pretty good but the price is not ver nice.

    hope that helps.

iirc its a cheap chinese imitation router that talktalk provide now (for £35), not worth it.
And stay away from belkin I eventually got mine working after a while, but still an irritation.
    Go for dlink, netgear etc

    Re: Should i 'upgrade' router

yes, blekin = bad. my dlink wasn't that great, not as good as the Negear that it replaced (netgear died and i needed something quickly, so dlink it was). Not replaced that with a Draytek Vigor. It's an uber router! way over the top for most poeple though

    Re: Should i 'upgrade' router

Yes. I would recommend going with Netgear, they're reasonably priced, not cheap though, and very reliable. I myself use Netgear for my network components and have used a DG834v2 for my router for the past year and half without fail.

Another advantage of the Netgear products in general, especially the routers, is the configuration ability on them, if your a novice, they provide a simple setup wizard, but if your an advanced user, then they are virtuall totally customisable.

    Hope this helps
