Has anyone used this? Is it any good?

I don't have any desire to try it, and I don't have a need for it either, I'm just curious after seeing the millionth advert for it on Dave.

*nod* I set one of the chaps at work up with logmein today - seems pretty painless, and a lot easier from a firewall point of view than RDP/VPN

Used the trial a while back and while it's on a par with LogMeIn, it's missing the attractive price point (ie free)

I seen these ads also, but I haven't tried it out - although I did have a go with the live mesh beta. I'd like to see where that at now.

But not authenticating proxies... can't believe they'd *not* have this functionality.

Use LogMeIn here too (for personal and some business use), very easy to setup and use. Would recommend it to professionals and home users alike.

    Re: GoToMyPC.co.uk

I have several computers set up with pc file transfer and one with gotomypc. Personally, I find the pc file transfer setup more intuitive and easier to use. If I were constantly using a machine, I would surely go with pc file transfer.

You can get a 1 month free trial by going to https://www.gotomypc.com/securitynow (advertised on a podcast I listen to).
Hmm I've just checked the home page I think you get that anyway.

    Re: GoToMyPC.co.uk

Be aware of the security implications - i.e. you are allowing GotoMyPC access to your system when you install their software (which is why some workplaces block access to their site). This applies with any software providing remote-control functionality that connects via a third-party website - that third party is gaining access to your system which could be abused.

A safer bet if you want to manage a PC remotely would be software like UltraVNC (which is also free). No third parties are involved with this, though you will need to ensure that any firewalls on the managed PC are configured to allow UltraVNC's traffic.

    Wot he says
    Live Mesh is cool.
Got it myself on 4 machines, 2 vista, 1 XP and one mac
I can see all my synced files with them and if required can RDP to any workstation (assuming it's on).

Live Mesh is a Microsoft product and is free at the moment because it is in Beta. If it ever comes out of Beta MS will no doubt have some licencing model for it :-(

Does Live Mesh lock the computer when you disconnect? What I like about logmein is it doesn't.

    Re: GoToMyPC.co.uk

If it puts peoples minds at rest at all, gotomypc is run by citrix, so is a big name that is behind the service. Personally I just use ssh to get onto my machines remotely, however I was thinking of using a service for remote admin for my families' computers as I seem to be "tech support" for all of them, recommendations?
