I have owned both and the D834G (version 2 black one) had a far better signal than the GT. It also runs ALOT cooler.

It is, it uses the Broadcom chipset. The others use the TI chipset and not all DMT features work and I don't think you get the SNR adjustment in the flashed firmware.

I used both and the GT was the inferior one for me.
    Both pretty decent though.

    Re: Netgear DG834GT or better?

I think the GT I bought is borked, I get massive lag no matter what firmware I'm using.
I've tried clearing the eeprom via the restore utility and still nothing

I was with SKY using both a GT and D384G
I know the BE followers like the GT.

I am with O2 now, and just use their router, not the D384G.

    Re: Netgear DG834GT or better?

Have you considered a generic Ti chipset router and the Routertech firmware?

There are a load of routers that will run Routertech, from cheap generic ones upwards to expensive branded ones. My router was a cheap generic one from Ebuyer (they called it a GWART-54125 but its a PTI-8505G in a generic case) but its stable, never drops the ADSL or the Wifi.

If you've got a router with the right chipset (check their forums for details), thats a bit flakey, Routertech will transform it.
