    Removing ring wire

I've just removed the ring wire from the socket to which my router is connected to and the sync speed has gone from 3360kbs to 4270 kbs.
What i want to know is if i remove the ring wire from all the sockets in the house will i see and even bigger improvment in speed or should i not bother?

    Re: Removing ring wire

I very much doubt it would change anything drastically, but it is worth just going round and removing the bell wire as it is redundant anyway, just on the off chance for another jump, or just squeezing the droplets...

Unless you have one of the old style phones, and then you might scupper yourself

    Re: Removing ring wire

I removed the ring wire from the socket that my router is attached and had an improvement. I then removed them from all the sockets within the house and it improved again. Personally it was worth the extra 10 minutes to remove them.

all the iplate does is disconnect the bell wire, you can do it much cheaper yourself (i.e. free )

sometimes it boosts the speed, other times it does nothing..

    a good guide:

    Re: Removing ring wire

I would of thought that the only one you would need to disconnect is on the master socket

It depends where you connect your modem to i would think, if it was off the master then yes, in theory only the master would need doing, but having the extra wire can cause spurious results, so it's just easier to disconn' them all in all the extension sockets.

    Re: Removing ring wire

Well just went round and did a couple more and it's now at 5312kbps.

I would have done it at the master but it's a wierd layout.
Found two that had capacitors on whilst other that didn't.
Theres still a few more but i've done all the ones with things plugged into.

One problem i had was that as i opened the one the phone was attached to the No.1 cable broke where it went in so i had to go and get the stanely knife to take the plastic off.

    Re: Removing ring wire

Wow that's a good speed boost considering it didn't cost anything! I don't use DSL myself but I'll let my friends know about it. I believe you sometimes have to wait for the ISP's hardware to re-sync with your modem/router so you might see even more of a boost after a while (reboot your router from time to time).

Edit: Just been reading that you only have to wait for the re-sync on Max: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/se...radsl.html#235

Another page that might be useful: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

    Re: Removing ring wire

I ended up putting in a new adsl master socket when I re plastered my front room so cant really comment on the new speeds, but I definitely notice the difference with sky when I sync the router in early hours of the morning when not so many people are online.

I went from 7.7Mb to 9Mb by disconnecting the bell wire.
