Yup, switched to it a while back, when BT's servers were failing all over the place.

Yep. Same issue. Be* DNS servers not reliably fast for me so I tried OpenDNS and tbh I've forgotten I'm using it. Very good.

Yeah. Different brands but same company at heart I think.

    Re: Do you use OpenDNS?

I use OpenDNS when setting up family and friends because I like the fact it provides a phishing filter service. I don't trust any of them to be able to distinguish between genuine and malicious sites, so it just adds an extra safety net and peace-of-mind for me

    Re: Do you use OpenDNS?

Does anyone here use Google Maps at all? I get terrible loading times with the Google Maps site and then again when I want an address to load. I've done some googling and it seems there could be a link between Google Maps' performance and my using OpenDNS. Is there a setting I can tweak at all or should I look for an alternative to OpenDNS? Don't want to go back to Be's own DNS servers for obvious reasons.

Ping google.com and paste the results here. I have a sneaky suspicion that your are using OpenDNS's Google servers...

Crazily slow pings compared to yours say.

Posted this on another forum. Have been asked if a mate has a Linux box and if so to get them to run a nameserver on it. None of my mates do run a Linux box. Could I use my spare PC to do this? Is there a specific Linux derivative to use? Or could I get away with using Ubuntu say?

    Re: Do you use OpenDNS?

    Try pinging www.google.com

WWW bit is important to find out if you are being redirected by OpenDNS.

Nope, normal servers. No re-direction by OpenDNS. It's something else mate.

Really? So what else could be affecting the loading time of Google Maps and its terrible performance when I actually put an address in?
