    Win2003 Server Enterprise & Standard.

    Hello.
What’s the difference between Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition and Standard edition?
    Which one should I install?
Will they be able to run at a dissent speed on a Pentium II 400MHZ and 576MB RAM?
Will I be able to play network games like C & C, Dune 2000, on my 2 PC home Lan, if I install them on Win2003 Server?

Do emulators work on Win2003 Server?

    Thanks in advance.

at £980 for the standard edition, isn't this overkill for games?

although yes, it will run games quite happily once you hit windowsupdate for directx9.0b, and it's MUCH faster than xp or 2k for general applications.

i used to run it on a p2-350 with 768mb ram and it was more than fine tbh

Well I want to get familiar with win2003 server and its services, since they ask for it in some jobs.
But I also want to setup a home network with a domain that consists of 2 PCs. 1 Server and 1 WinXp. I want to play some network games like Dune2000 & C & C Red Alert 2.

That's why I wanted to know the differences between Standard & Enterprise edition.
    According to this:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...eeditions.mspx
    They're quite a few.

But I'm not sure if I'll need all the extras that enterprise edition has compared to Standard.
    Thanks for the link.

According to Microsoft's website, here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...s/default.mspx
I have more than the recommended minimum amount of RAM, but my CPU is below the recommended speed for both the Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition.

    hhmm...

To be honest mate if you can afford the £1322.94 +vat that Win2003 Server Enterprise Edition costs - im sure you can afford to upgrade your Server PC to something that will run it?

Bear in mind discussion of warez or software theft is not allowed on these forums.

    Cheers

He could be using the 180 day evaluations of the software though, but the position on warez has been made clear.

So you will only be able to use the system you set up for 180 days.

afaik the major diff is the number of supported CPUs, eg one version supports 2 CPUs, others support 4 etc etc, just get the trail versions and see if theres any diff for yourself before you buy
