    Linksys WRT54GSV4 password

    Hi,

I have a Linksys WRT54GSV4 v1.05.3 wireless router. We've had it for years and up until recently we used to have to use a WEP key to access the internet on the wireless. For some reason just recently the router doesn't need this to access it and I noticed today that the neighbours are using our wireless. I tried to access the router settings through typing the IP address into internet explorer but it asked for a username and password. I then tried pressing the reset button on the back of the router to get rid of this but it's still asking for it. Does anyone know the default username and password for this router so that I can get it sorted and stop the neighbours using it?

    Thanks very much

    Welcome to Hexus.

Quick search on Linksys' website give this: http://downloads.linksysbycisco.com/...v4-EU_ug,0.pdf

Page 34 is the one you need.

    Re: Linksys WRT54GSV4 password

    Nice one!
So your neighbours are not content to piggyback off you for free Internet but they also locked you out by changing the password.

Anyway, the default password for this router is:
    Username: <BLANK>
    Password: admin
BTW, the manuals says that you have to press the reset button for at least five seconds. Oh and try and set a good WAP password once you get back control of router or your neighbours can seize control again.

Make sure that you set the Wireless to use WPA2 instead of WEP. WEP can be cracked quickly where as WPA2 is alot stronger - using WEP you might as well use no wireless password at all.

    Re: Linksys WRT54GSV4 password

A few other things you can do to help you disappear, change your SID, when you have setup all your computers turn off the broadcast. Lock you wireless to the MAC addresses of your wireless cards. Sadly linksys only accepts admin traffic from the same subnet, however does not care it if comes from the wire or wireless side, which is a mistake in my book. Though I don't do this at the moment running an open access point can be fun, you can redirect all traffic from unknown sources through a corrupting proxy that can do fun things like invert every image they download. At some meets man in the middle wifi proxies are all the rage and less friendly to visitors, strange that host key just changed, lets type my password....
