Talk talk phone line with other ISP?

My landlord decided to switch to Talktalk out of the blue. My past experience with TalkTalk has been dire, and I am not really looking forward to that switch. Well, to be honest, I don't care about the phone line since it's never used, but I am very worried about the internet connection.

Still, I believe that there is a cool down period, and I am going try and persuade him to switch to another ISP. If I need to pay a little more for it (my rent includes the Internet), then so be it.

I am just wondering if there is any difference between BT and Talktalk as a landline, in terms of connecting to another ISP. I would ideally like to go with Be or O2, and given that I am in central London, it is almost foolish not to pick an ISP offering 24Mbit (Welcome pack for TalkTalk only mention 8Mbit) if it's available. I am just not sure if there is a difference between a TalkTalk landline and a BT one.

I use talk talk for my phone line and o2 for my broadband. No issues there at all

The only annoying thing is talktalk used to keep ringing to get me to use their broadband, until I got angry with them

Thanks. My landlord basically told me that I could do to do as I wish (as long as the phone line is not BT) as long as I do it myself and sort out the problem on my own, so I am now investigating if I can get go O2.

According to the postcode, I can. But putting my phone number gets me the following message: "The phone number doesn't seem to be for a BT landline. Please check it and try again. You can't get O2 Broadband unless you have a BT landline."

Can you check what you get with your number? [https://www.o2broadband.o2.co.uk/che...ailability.do]

Check with o2 what line speed you will get as there's no point using their top tier service if your line is capped at 8mbs. Plus the top and bottom service difference is mostly the nebulous download priority and I've never encountered any limits on the most basic package.

The problem is that I cannot check. It seems like the number is not recognised

According to Samknows, I am only 0.6 miles from the exchange, so I'd expect over 8Mbit.

If I was willing to pay that much (am not), I even have access to 50Mbit Virgin Fibre Optic

Make sure you don't include any gaps when inputting your telephone number. I know it causes problems on the be site.

My talk talk phone line pre dates talk talk broadband so I don't know whether that would make a difference.
